ルーテル世界連盟(LWF)ACT(Action Church Together)の合同調査チームが近々チュニジアに到着。
リビアから避難している数万人の人たちに焦点をあてます。

With leadership from the LWF, an ACT Alliance humanitarian assessment team will be
arriving soon in Tunisia. They will focus on the hundreds of thousands of people who are
fleeing from Libya. So far, most of those who are leaving are foreign workers, predominantly
from Egypt but some from as far away as Bangladesh or Nepal. But among them are even
more vulnerable populations, persecuted refugees from Sub-Saharan African countries who
were trying to flee to freedom in Europe but who were stopped and detained in Libya. The
assessment team is coordinated with and supported by LWF related agencies. LWF has been
participating in United Nations meetings about how to respond. We will continue to closely
coordinate with the UN and other international humanitarian organizations.
In addition to sharing this information about the LWF’s planned actions in the immediate
future, I would like to put before you three requests:
1. Please join me in prayer for the people of North Africa and throughout the Middle
East. Pray that violence and repression will stop. Pray that people will be treated with
dignity and respect. Pray that leaders will be chosen who are honest and accountable.
Pray that the families of those who have died will be comforted. Pray that the
migrants will be able to return home safely and that the refugees will find refuge.
2. Please continue to support the LWF’s humanitarian efforts through your financial
donations.
3. For those of you in European countries, please advocate with your governments to
assume responsibility, leadership and compassion for those who are fleeing from
North Africa. While the struggling countries bordering Libya are generously keeping
their borders open, the European discussions seem to focus more on how to protect
their borders. The humanitarian situation calls for a different approach!
